Poly Pit Falls

Part of the reason I like the idea of having a poly community is the ability to collect "Lessons Learned."

Here an advice column from a paper in Seattle about when one should and should not sleep with one of your partners' partners. The answer seems obvious after reading the whole thing but you can tell from the letter that things were not so clear to the woman writing in. For myself it is easy to forget how abandoning "The Rules" in this one area of my life cast so many other common sense rules into doubt.

For instance suddenly being free to do something does not translate into having to do that thing or even wanting to. How about the confusion of non poly friends who think that just because I can sleep with other people it does not mean I want to sleep with them or in the case I am thinking about, it did not mean I was after their spouse.
